Special Needs

Meet MaiTai and Julep! Aren't they pretty? Julep and MaiTai came to the shelter when they were about 2 months old. Unfortunately, they had not had any human contact up to that point and were very scared of human contact. They immediately went into foster care where they received daily touching and lots of human to cat conversation. Bit by bit they became less afraid but they still "froze" when they were picked up and cuddled. Surprisingly, they liked to interact with the other adult cats in the household -- cats, yes; people, maybe.

Julep and MaiTai returned to the shelter early this year. They tested negative for feline aids and leukemia, had their distemper and rabies shots and were spayed. They are TOTALLY devoted to each other; they cuddle together constantly and they especially enjoy lounging in the hammock in their kitty crate. While it might be a lot to ask of a prospective adopter, these girls MUST be adopted together. And they need to be adopted by someone withg a great deal of patience and prior experience with shy cats. If someone had a home office or a workshop where these two cats could cohabit without having a lot of interaction expected of them at first, that would be ideal.

Julep, the more trusting of the two, is a lovely soft gray tabby. Her sister MaiTai is what we call a Tabico -- a tabby with orange running through her coat. If you are interested in the possibility of adopting MaiTai and JULEP, they can be seen at the shelter during daily adoption hours. Our online application is just a click away. Please fill it out and a volunteer will contact you shortly. 5/20/2006

MANGO is a spunky rescued from the streets of Rahway.  She has adjusted to life indoors and is looking forward to finding her forever home. Mango is a shy girl. She really wants to be close to her humans but is just afraid to be held. She purrs when you talk to her, and even rolls on her back but still runs for cover when you try to pick her up.

she gets along fine with other cats and would do well in a quiet home without a lot of activity.

You can visit Mango at shelter during our daily adoption hours. If you are interested in the possibility of adopting her, please fill out our online application and a volunteer will contact you shortly. 12/30/09
