Roscoe

We had been looking the perfect shelter dog for several months. We looked at many shelters in several states. Each potential dog was adopted before we could apply, or turned out to not be quite right for us. Each time our expectations built up, then fell back to Earth. Each time, our frustration increased. Would we ever be able to meet the dog that was truly meant to be with us?

Then, in October 2009, we met Roscoe (nee Dolce).

When we stepped out of the car to meet him, he ran up to us and began licking. He is the epitome of a happy dog. Of course, his foster mom, Charlotte, took GREAT care of him, and we knew instantly that he was not only adorable, but also great with people. We were stunned that such a well mannered, loveable dog could be abandoned by an owner. Didn't matter, though. He was our little guy now.

After taking Roscoe home, it took him about an hour to get settled. It soon became apparent to us that he was, in fact, that perfect dog. He likes his walks, but loves to run. Whenever he goes out (especially in his coat), everyone comments on how cute he is. He chews toys but doesn't touch furniture, shoes, or table legs. He never barks, except when he hears people coming up the stairs. And he's happiest when both Mommy and Daddy sit on the couch with him in the middle. All he wants is love, but he wants a lot of it! Not long after we brought Roscoe home, we brought home our cat, Sid. They're brothers all the way-- they play like brothers, fight like brothers, chase each other around the house like brothers until the parents tell them to cut it out, and then they hang out on the couch together. We don't have any human children yet, but we are grateful for our boys every single day. Thank you, FOLAS, for connecting us with Roscoe, our 18 pound, Dachshund/Chihuahua, caramel-colored, happy-tailed blessing.

With much gratitude,
